Rocks at Mäntyranta

Glacial erratics (large rocks) deposited by ice flow

The rocks are situated at Lake Saimaa in Eastern Finland. The rocks have been transported and deposited by glaciers during periods of glaciation in the last ice age. When the ice eventually melted and the glaciers retreated, these rocks were deposited in the landscape, often far from their geological source.

“Glacial erratics” are a significant geological feature of Finland.
