Exploring Suomenlinna Through the Lens

While walking for hours around the historic sea fortress of Suomenlinna, I found inspiration at every turn. From weathered doors and crumbling stone walls to the textured surfaces of steps and hidden corners, the island is rich in visual detail. I often pointed my camera downward, capturing abstract patterns in the ice that had formed across the ground—unexpected art created by nature. Suomenlinna, built in the mid-18th century across several islands off the coast of Helsinki, was once a strategic military base. Today, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site that continues to surprise and inspire with its layers of history and striking visual textures.
